PINIX TEP-6

What is PINIX TEP-6?

PINIX TEP-6 is a Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) 5.x beacon badge with an integrated RFID card holder, built for personnel identification, presence monitoring, and auto-attendance. It runs on an ultra-low-power Nordic® nRF52 chipset and 4 replaceable coin batteries. It has an enlarged SOS button, a buzzer and LED alerts, and an IP66 waterproof rating.

The PINIX TEP-6 can be integrated into a wide range of BLE-based proximity and location-aware applications. The badge holds a standard CR80 ID card and is worn on a lanyard. Downloadable SDK and integration tools make it easy to connect to existing systems for personnel positioning, visitor management, geo-fencing, and access control.

Key Features & Benefits

Integrated RFID Card Holder

Combines BLE beacon transmission with a CR80 ID card slot, enabling personnel identification alongside proximity and presence detection in a single wearable device.

Downloadable SDK and integration tools

Connect the badge to your existing systems or build custom solutions with minimal effort.

Rugged, IP66 Waterproof

Built for daily wear in demanding work environments.

Motion-Aware Advertising

An onboard 3-axis accelerometer enables motion sensing, with adaptive advertisement rates triggered by motion to optimize battery consumption.

Multi-Protocol Beacon

Broadcasts in iBeacon, Eddystone (UID & TLM), and sBeacon (Sentrax proprietary) formats.

SOS Button & Instant Alerts

An enlarged SOS button, a buzzer, and LED notifications support emergency calls and location-based alerts.

How It Works?

BLE gateways installed around the facility pick up the badge’s signal and send positioning data to the RTLS Middleware & APIs. There, each person’s presence can be tracked within defined zones.

The integrated RFID card holder supports personnel identification by allowing an existing RFID card to be carried alongside the BLE badge, combining identification and location data in a single wearable device.

Sentrax Device Manager (SDM)

The Sentrax Device Manager (SDM) app allows you to manage PINIX beacons. You can discover nearby beacons, check their battery levels, view their current settings, and modify them with a protected 4-digit settable PIN.

For security, beacons can only be configured within 15 minutes of a new battery installation or by manually activating configuration mode. Using advanced settings, the configuration window can be extended to up to three weeks.

Applications & Use Cases

Lone Worker Safety

Night-shift staff, maintenance crews and anyone working alone in a plant room or cold store can call for help with one press of the badge they’re already wearing. The alert shows the zone they’re in.

Financial Institutions

Staff opening or closing a branch carry the alert button on the same lanyard as their ID card. If something feels wrong, they can quietly signal for help without reaching for a phone.

Healthcare

Nurses and carers working alone with patients can raise an alert from their ID badge. Security can see which room or ward they’re in.

Workforce Safety

During an evacuation, safety officers see who is still inside and which zone they were last detected in, so they don’t have to rely on paper roll calls.

Visitor Management

Visitors receive a badge at reception with their visitor card inside. Security can see where they go and is alerted if they enter a restricted zone.

Automatic Attendance

Shift start and end are recorded when a badge enters or leaves a designated zone, so there are no clock-in queues or forgotten punches.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PINIX TEP-6?
PINIX TEP-6 is a Bluetooth® Low Energy 5.1 badge that holds a standard CR80 ID card and is worn on a lanyard. It is designed for personnel identification, presence monitoring and automatic attendance as part of a Sentrax SOLIX deployment.
How does PINIX TEP-6 work within a facility?
The badge broadcasts a BLE signal that is picked up by Sentrax gateways installed around the site. The gateways send the data to SOLIX, which shows each person’s presence by zone and passes it to your applications through APIs.
Can I use my existing ID or access card with it?
Yes. The badge has a slot for a standard CR80 card, so employees carry one wearable for both identification and location. [Confirm whether the badge has its own RFID chip and update this answer.]
How long does the battery last?
The badge runs on four replaceable CR2032 coin cells (880 mAh). Battery life is about 2.9 years at a 1-second advertising interval and more than 5 years at 5 seconds. Motion-triggered advertising extends it further.
What environments is it suited to?
The badge is IP66-rated against dust and water jets and operates from –20 °C to 60 °C at 0–95% humidity (non-condensing). It is CE, FCC and RoHS certified.
Does it work outside the facility?
No. The badge is located only where Sentrax BLE gateways are installed.
How do I configure and update the badges?
Use the Sentrax Device Manager (SDM) app to find nearby badges, check battery levels and change settings, protected by a 4-digit PIN. For security, configuration is allowed only for 15 minutes after a battery change or when configuration mode is activated manually; this window can be extended to three weeks. Firmware is updated over the air.
Which beacon formats does it support?
iBeacon, Eddystone (UID & TLM) and sBeacon (Sentrax proprietary), with an advertising interval adjustable from 100 ms to 10 s.
